The ‘Fetchers’ are these jellyfish like drone robots that swoop in and snatch people up and bring them to the alien mother ship.  Devious little buggers.

The illustration is painted in gouache and line art in ink.

“Mech Horror” – Progression ATC

Normally I only post the finished artwork on the Art Card images (view my other Art Cards), but this time I’ve scanned my steps to show the process and what it looks like as I go.

First, I have my pencil sketch.  My drawings when making  these cards are pretty much out of my head and onto the paper, no preliminary studies.

The sketch is pretty rough.  Lots of mixed lines, the thought process going on as I’m putting it down.  Originally when I sketched this hapless victim he was looking face on to the viewer of the scene.  I didn’t like it though as I thought that pose weakened the dynamics and energy of the scene.  So, his head was erased and started over again to what is shown here.

Next, inking it in.
